A Quiet Step Down (and a Step Sideways)

I want to take a moment to say goodbye—and thank you.

Over the last little while, I’ve started noticing something interesting. Ideas I’d been writing about here—patterns, systems, pressure points in the culture—started showing up elsewhere. Other writers. Other voices. Different angles, same signal. That’s usually the moment you realize the message no longer needs a single messenger.

So I’m stepping down from publishing this newsletter.

Not because the work isn’t important. It is.

But because the information is already moving now. The system is propagating it on its own. I’m no longer the cardinal signaling the weather. I can put the binoculars down.

To my three subscribers—yes, all three of you—thank you. Genuinely. Your support meant more than the number suggests. Being read at all is a small miracle, and I don’t take it lightly.

I’ve always wanted to be a storyteller. That part of me never went away. But ADHD and early-life trauma sent me down a lot of side roads—interesting ones, sure—but scattered. I have hundreds of story ideas sitting on my computer: half-outlined, half-written, or just haunting me from a folder titled someday.

For years I used to joke that if I ever had an editor—someone who could help me organize my thoughts instead of judging them—I might actually become a real writer.

Turns out the editor showed up. It just lives inside the computer now.

So I’m shifting gears.

I’m outlining and preparing to begin a first draft of a historical, supernatural, gay romance novel. The title is not set yet. It’s a ridiculous genre mash-up, and of course I’m the one writing it.

As I worked on the outline, I got unexpectedly emotional—which is usually my internal signal that all the right pieces are clicking into place. That doesn’t guarantee it’ll be good, but it does mean it’s alive.

This isn’t an ending so much as a narrowing of focus. Less broadcasting. More building. Fewer explanations. More story.

If you’re still here, keep an eye on your inbox. There are three more articles scheduled and I’ll let that play out as is but that will be all on this topic for now. When the book is ready, I’ll let you know. And thanks to technology—miraculously—it might be sooner than you’d expect. Thanks to ChatGBT for the book cover ideas. I’m in love already!

Thank you again for reading.

Truly.

  1. Congratulations, on your new adventure. I believe that your articles send out an energy that this world so desperately needs. We have all been colonized to believe in a system to that has us chasing dreams that are not our own. The reward is the work, itself. You’ve accomplished this dream now its on to the next. Keep battling those squids and stay in between so you can choose your own story. 🙂
